About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Hidy (Yuhui) Li, a current Master’s student in the Education, Culture, and Society program at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
Growing up in Beijing, China, I started my study abroad journey in 2019 at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, double-majoring in Psychology and Anthropology. In Fall 2022, I spent a semester in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I was in the core program Child Development and Education in Scandinavia. In Denmark and during our program’s Long Study Tour in Finland, I first learned the importance of play in education.
At Penn GSE, I further examined the impact of play beyond childhood, particularly in professional spaces where it’s often undervalued. Through my capstone, I aim to challenge the prevailing perception of play as unproductive, instead proposing it as a crucial part of our professional and everyday lives that promotes mental health and wellbeing.
Let's play!

From 2019-2023, I double-majored in Psychology and Anthropology at Franklin & Marshall College, where I learned the value of combining academic theories with hands-on research and fieldwork. The liberal arts education I received here allowed me to take a multidisciplinary approach to learning, and apply knowledge in innovative ways to address the challenges we face in the world.
In Fall 2022, I had the opportunity to go on my second study abroad journey in Copenhagen, enrolling in the Child Development and Education in Scandinavia Core Program. Filled with field trips and immersive learning, this semester opened my eyes on education outside traditional classrooms, and helped me gain further global and cultural insights.

From 2023-2025, I studied in the Education, Culture, and Society program at GSE with a concentration in Community Action and Social Change. This program was the perfect fit for my interdisciplinary interests, and I was able to combine my passion for Education, Psychology, and Anthropology to explore how play can promote mental health and well-being in adult life, especially within professional spaces.
